Tony Blair Iraq1

Look Who’s Talking?

Look who's talking? The man who lied to his people to justify a war that killed over a million people speaks again. He wants the West to ignore the crimes of Russia and China and unite with them to suppress "radical Islam". What does he actually mean by "radical Islam"? It is clear that "radical Islam", to him, means the political aspect of the religion. He doesn't care about singing, dancing, praying, chanting, and fasting Muslims. He only sees "political Muslims" as a threat to the world peace, as if he himself is the biggest practitioner of peace on earth. Tony Blair has again expressed his discontent with the largest and the most visible part of the Islamic history: the political...
Once Again

Once again…

‘The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.’ Albert Einstein Once again we are about to let down a suffering child; once again the powerbrokers of the current global political order are silent at the misfortune of a helpless mother; once again we will witness mass rape and turn away; once again you have become desensitised to genocide; once again this world is deaf to the screams of a rape victim; once again we allow the crime to flourish, only to condemn it later. Once again we are collectively guilty of mass murder by doing nothing. I say not again, not another crime... not again please. The genocide of Rwanda occurred...
Happy Muslim Why Who1

Happy, Who and Why

Blog post by Laura Stuart The Muslims of the U.K. clearly feel under attack and misrepresented in the main-stream media. It is an undisputed fact that Muslims are suffering from a huge campaign to “otherise” us and depict us as dangerous people who are not able to fit into Western Society. Sadly most Muslims in the U.K. and the West have no perception of the massive well funded Islamophobia industry in the West nor what it’s objectives are and importantly who funds it. This week a video entitled “Happy British Muslims” appeared on social media. Immediately many Muslims wrote comments condemning the video as UnIslamic, others posted that they found that the video carried a...

A Comment on the Egypt Death Sentences

On Monday 24 March 2014, the Egyptian court issued 529 death sentences against members and supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood. Representing the largest single set of death sentences in our modern history, the sentences were handed en-masse in a trial that was politically charged, lasting only two hours and without due process wherein neither prosecution nor defence lawyers could present their evidences. The majority of the accused were absent from the court when the sentences were passed against them. In a kangaroo court that has condemned hundreds of people to death in which the judge did not consider the evidence or the defences of the accused, there is a gross travesty of justice. The...
TEA TERROR HHUGS

Terror, Tea and Hhugs

Tea for Terrorists? By: Lauren Booth At a hall in Dewsbury, in the north of England, a small hall is lined with stalls selling glittering cupcakes and charity T-shirts. This is an awareness and fund raising event for the initiative Hhugs - Helping Households Under Great Stress. The charity which assists the families of men in prison charged under ‘terror’ or immigration legislation. If the words above have set an indignant fury nagging at you. That's understandable. If I didn’t live, work and pray, amongst British Muslims I’d be indignant about such an event too - perhaps. Maybe I’d be suspicious as well, of ‘that lot with their Shariah law and covered up women’. On...
Tony Benn1

Tony Benn Obituary

The passing of Tony Benn on the 14th March 2014 is a sad occasion for many. A man whose tenacity and enduring courage became an inspiration for so many is a reminder to us of the scarcity of committed advocates for justice in our world. He reminds us of what we know about Mut’im ibn Adiyy, a man from the unbelievers with whom the Prophet Muhammad (upon him abundant peace) enacted the Hilf al-Fudul, a treaty intent on securing the rights of all in the town of Makkah; a man who was instrumental in ending the boycott against the Prophet and his companions; and a man who the Prophet remembered in good terms after his death: ‘If Mut’im was alive today and asked me to ransom these prisoners...

Moazzem won’t Begg (Justice is a Right)

By Lauren Booth Haworth is a cobbled, charming timepiece village, shunted, deep into the Yorkshire Moors. Setting off in the car with my daughters for a half term break, I am wondering if we will be glared at by uniquely, ‘white’ hiking families, during secluded walks, here in the North of England . Ye Olde Apothecary, our B&B is part of an unchanged 19th century row of shops and taverns, tapering into a forbidding, grey, hillside. Arriving at dusk, the silence beneath the ancient church makes us feel we should whisper. Dragging bags up a winding, staircase, I am amazed when a disembodied, voice floats down with the words: ‘Assalamu Alaykhum’(The Islamic greeting meaning...

Hunt the Living, Praise the Dead….

The famous nineteenth century poet, Ghalib, once said: کی مرے قتل کے بعد اس نے جفا سے توبہ -  ہائے اس زود پشیماں کا پشیماں ہونا ‘The beloved has repented from oppression having killed me – Ah the remorsefulness of the remorseful.’ This is the attitude we see the oppressors demonstrate these days. Some of the most prominent freedom fighters or human rights activists were hunted by their respective oppressors and once the heroes had been killed or incarcerated, giant monuments or praising biographies were dedicated to their memories. This is a well calculated tactic employed by some of the most tyrannical powers in our history....

Statement from Islamic Society & LGBT Network at The Uni of Nottingham

Posted on March 11, 2014 Posted in Press Releases The Islamic Society (ISoc) and the LGBT Network at the University of Nottingham would like to voice our disappointment and concern in hearing that Tab reporters have been approaching individuals from the LGBT Network in an attempt to provoke an antagonistic atmosphere between the two groups. As part of Discover Islam Week, the Islamic society had been hosting a number of events to encourage a greater understanding of Islam both within the university and the wider society in Nottingham. In a meeting with the SU, the list of speakers was discussed and purported allegations regarding Dr. Uthman Lateef and Yusuf Chambers were brought up. It...
